My Easter company went home yesterday. The house seems so empty without Tabitha, age three, and Simon who is four months. But, I do have something wonderful to look forward to for my friends Sandy and Chris are coming to visit in a few weeks. As I refresh the bedrooms, I am reminded of an article that I read a short time ago. The point of the article was about how to make a guest room really nice for company and it listed eight things that you can do to make your guests comfortable and feel welcome.
The article did not mention one of my tips and that is to spend at least one night in the guest bedroom. That way, you can check for unwanted light or noises, test drive the mattress, see if furniture placement is good or too crowded and see if there is enough space in the closet and in drawers. You might awake the next morning and make some much needed adjustments to the room.
Here are eight easy things to do to make your guest room more like a hotel:
#1. Have an assortment of books and/or magazines that appeal to all tastes or maybe just fill the room with reading material for each guest. Be sure to have a lamp by the bed that makes it easy to read.
#2 A folding luggage stand is helpful to your guest and it keeps dirty suitcases off of your pretty linens!
#3 Lots of pillows! Have some thick and some thin. And while we are talking, have good blankets….maybe a summer weight and a winter weight and use the best linens you can afford. Don’t go overboard and add so many pillows that your guest must get up twenty miintues early to put the bed back together. Store extra pillows in the closet if possible.
#4 Hooks and hangers are more than helpful.
Here are some pretty guest rooms that I think any guest would enjoy.
If you have guests over the holidays, why not decorate the room for them?
Enjoy your guests! Create and be happy!
