The new 2013 Southern Living Idea House offers many ideas for you and me and I know you will enjoy seeing what they are.  This Southern Living farmhouse is located on the grounds of the Fontanel in Nashville, Tennessee.  The Fontanel is a 27,000 square foot log home formerly owned by country music star Barbara Mandrell.  First, we take a look at the exterior of the Idea House.  Photos are by Laurey Glenn.

The Entryway

The chevron design of the front door dates back centuries.  It is a practical choice because it sheds water.

Fontanel Idea House: The Living Room

Inside is this wonderful living room.  Decorator Phoebe Howard used a light color palette to balance the rustic beams salvaged from an 1890 Tennessee barn.

The coffee table was a dining room table.  The decorator had it cut down to this prescribed height.

The Kitchen

The kitchen is very symmetrical.

Note the sliding barn doors.

Glass front cabinets flank the entry to the dining room.

Fontanel Idea House: The Back Porch

Great back porch between the dining room and the master bedroom.

This is the front porch.  Note how the chain holding up the bed size swing is wrapped with rope.

The Dining Room

The dining room is casual and features soft sheers.

The Study

Just off the living room is this cozy study.

The master bedroom features a painted spool bed.

The Master Bath

The tub in the master bath….lovely!

The Guesthouse Upstairs Suite

In the guest house there is an upstairs suite.  Note the shield mirror hung in the window.

Guest house downstairs….a more contemporary vibe.

The Bunkies

On the edge of the property are two miniature versions of the main house.

"Her" Bunkie

Bedroom in the first miniature house which is called a “Bunkie.”

I love this aged chest with great patina.

Second “Bunkie.”

Here are some antlers as described in one of my earlier posts.  Note the heavily carved wood table.

The Powder Room

Pretty powder room with tiled wall and lots of texture.

The Laundry Room

Nice laundry room with lots of light and storage. Note cloth skirt around the humble laundry tub.
