Is it safe to say that spring is finally here? After all, the Girls’ State Basketball Tournament in Iowa is over. It always snows during that tournament. My friend in Washington D.C. says that the cherry blossom trees in the Tidal Basin are thinking about blooming. But, the best indicator that I know is that the forsythia bushes are in bloom…and they are glorious! We had one outside the back door of our home in Iowa when I was growing up. It was one of those bushes that had been there for many years and it grew in a natural shape with branches that seemed to reach for the sky. Maybe they absorbed the sunshine and then reflected it back out again for us all to enjoy. What other than sunshine could be so yellow and so vibrant?
I want to share with you photos of these beautiful bushes…they make me happy just to see them and I hope that you enjoy them, too.
Did you know that you can snip off a branch and root it in water? You can even put a low branch on the ground and cover it over with some soil and it will make a new plant. I call that easy gardening. Clip some branches that aren’t in full bloom yet and bring them into the house. Place them in a vase of water and very soon they will be forced into bloom. What a nice morning surprise that would be!
I have noticed that artificial silk forsythia is very pretty….it makes a beautiful wreath for your front door.
Want some drama for your table?
If you have access to a bush, please cut some and bring it inside to enjoy. Create and be happy!
