I have never seen a house where the outside is painted black. At least I don’t remember seeing one and I think that I would! However, after looking at these homes, it seems to me that with the right trim paint and the right architecture, a black house could be striking and very pretty. What do you think?
This black Italianate was featured on the blog Hooked on Houses.com.
It is owned by Roger Hazard, long time host of “Sell This House.” Here is what it looked like before.
….and after:
The window boxes make it really special.
Trim work and corbels were highlighted with a higher sheen paint. The hot pink front door just pops! After looking at this house, I wanted to see some more black homes.
There may be some reasons to not paint your house black. For one, the color absorbs heat and for another black tends to show up all imperfections. Black would fade quickly. But, in my opinion, it surely does look good!

I don’t think that painting a house black is for the faint of heart. I do think that I would like this one better with white trim. The house has beautiful trim that could be highlighted with white paint.

Then, I got to wondering what black interior rooms would be like?
The carved oak desk pops against the dark walls.

Could you live in a black house or in black rooms inside your house? After having looked at the houses and the rooms in this post I think that I could if there was plenty of cream trim and/or accessories with bright pops of color.
Create and be happy!

I love the black exterior, but only with the off-white or white trim. A powder room that gets no natural light is also a nice place to use black. Have you seen the dark brown house in Ardrey Commons? It’s beautiful! (It almost looks black).
